March is International Women’s Month. We have to take the time to celebrate the women around us, but can’t forget those who paved the way in the past. Like Shirley Chisholm being the first female in American history to run for president in the early 1970s or the four incredible women – Bobbie Johnson, Judith Cohen, Ann Dickson and Ann Maybury – who made the 1969 landing of Apollo 11 possible. And while all these women have made a difference, there is an entire female generation in politics today, rising up to the task. They are the face to the future of our democracy.

A great example of someone who was born to lead, is the incredibly talented, history-making poet and activist Amanda Gorman. Being only 24 years old, she has the ability to use her powerful voice in such a magnificent way to speak up against the flaws within the justice system. That is not something you see every day. She mainly focuses on current and personal topics such as feminism and racism. She rose to fame when she made a moving speech at the Biden-Harris inauguration in 2021. We witnessed many historical events that day, one of which was made by Amanda Gorman. She said that “through poetry I can speak to both the world’s problems and its solutions”. This is a very powerful thing to do, don’t you think? Not many people have the ability or bravery to do what she does.
Amanda has mentioned several times that ever since the age of 11, she has dreamt of becoming president one day and is hoping to do so in 2036. Having a dream like that is incredible. She touches so many hearts through her calm, but powerful voice. From a fan’s perspective, the young dreamer and her poems are both incredibly underrated. The way she intertwines and uses powerful words to get her point across, truly inspires so many young women and girls around the world. She also shows those who look like her that times are changing and that they are more than capable of speaking up loud and clear. Amanda is a woman who could easily make history in a way that has not been seen before. There is no doubt that we need more young leaders like her. We need leaders who are willing to sacrifice so much to make things possible for many generations to come. To show them that they have the power to use their voices and make change the way we are doing it today. This is the only way we will ever be able to make a difference in the world we live in.

Young leaders like Amanda Gorman have proven countless times that it does not matter if you have aspirations to be president, to own your own business or to be an entrepreneur, you have the power to speak up and be heard. You have the power to really make a change, not only in your own life but in other people’s lives as well. As women, we need to show the world the kind of power we hold. There is no greater truth than the fact that being female is our superpower. We have to use it to push change for the greater good. There are women out there who are not necessarily famous, but always shine bright despite the challenges they may face. Because of everything that they work for and achieve every single day, the future will look so much brighter. The women who shaped the past and are impacting the future today, have proven to us that the chain of female impact will continue to be empowered and filled with light, just like a sky full of stars.
